How we make them fit Most blow molding machines use short-wave infrared to get those PET preforms up to temperature. We didn’t try to reinvent the wheel here. We just stuck to the global standards—using the usual R7s or SK15 connectors and precise lengths. Because of that, these fit into about 95% of the oven racks you’ll run into. You don’t have to swap sockets or touch the wiring. It just works. The gritty details Depending on the length of the tube, we usually spec these between 2000W and 3000W. By keeping the voltage high, we can keep the current draw low. This is a win for your power distribution blocks because it keeps them from getting overloaded. We also use heavy-wall quartz glass. Why? Because extreme heat makes cheap glass bow, and a bowing lamp is a broken lamp. Plus, we fill them with halogen gas. This stops the tungsten from evaporating too fast, which means your light output stays steady over thousands of cycles instead of dipping off. A quick heads-up from the field These lamps pack a punch, which is great for keeping your cycle times fast. But here is the thing: that intensity is hard on your reflectors. If your reflectors are pitted or looking oxidized, you’re going to lose heat. You won’t get the full wattage into the preform, no matter how nice the lamp is.
